Indian F1 Grand Prix on October 30, 2011!

In March 2010, F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone stated that there would be an Indian Grand Prix on the 2011 Formula 1 calendar. Since then, we have seen work at the Jaypee International Race Circuit reach a fever pitch, and warming the hearts of motorsport enthusiasts around the country. The new has just been confirmed though - India will be hosting its very first Formula 1 Grand Prix on October 30, 2011.While there was talk of the FIA axing either the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai or the Turkish Grand Prix at the Istanbul Park Circuit to make space for the debut F1 race in India, the association has surprised almost everybody by including all three destinations on the 2011 calendar. While that is fantastic news for F1 fans, the competing teams are certain to have a tough time managing the calendar, which now includes 20 race weekends.Meanwhile, construction at the circuit site is on at an impressive pace, on schedule to be complete by May 2011 when members of the FIA will visit, inspect and homologate the track. The Indian Grand Prix in FIA's calendar bears an asterisk by its name for the same reason ? the final seal on the race will have to wait until the homologation of the circuit by this team. The 5.14 km long racetrack is being projected as one of the fastest and the most entertaining circuits in the world, with lots of elevation changes and plenty overtaking opportunities. In the calendar, the Indian Grand Prix figures as the third last race of the season. Who knows, it could even be the race at which a new F1 world champion is crowned!
